Eating with Allergies

As you can glean from this blog, I love to eat!  Managing food allergies of family members can be a challenge when some or all of those family members are not accustomed to restricting their own diets.  So how do you do it?  Trust your tastebuds!

We are so lucky to live in the 21st century, because (1) Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, and other allergy-friendly food suppliers abound; and (2) we have the Internet!  Hopefully this blog and others will help you, as they have helped me, discover how to cook and bake to accommodate the allergies that you are managing.  Don’t be afraid to try various recipes, and brace yourself when your execution of them yields less than inspired food.  You need to find those recipes that appeal to your tastebuds, and modify them as you see fit.

I wanted to ensure that my child shares the love for food that my husband and I embrace…to make sure that he can eat homemade cookies, bread, and other baked goods…and that he has fun with food.  That’s what eating is all about as a toddler.  Nutrition, growth, and fun.  So I am also including on this blog some suggestions for making food fun for a toddler with many food allergies.  Please try them out, and let me know what you think!
